FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND!

Thanks to our beloved Anchoress, I have discovered a new site called The Three Masketeers wherein, to my complete astonishment, I learned new things about my Catholic faith, about Lent and about a priest who is, if you'll pardon the expression, a complete ROCK STAR, Fr. Philip N. Powell, OP, whose homily is reprinted by these three savvy bloggers.

I also learned that the best way to deal with Director James Cameron's new campaign (wherein he claims he has "discovered" the graves of Jesus, Mary, Mary Magdalene and Jesus' son - what nonsense) is to just laugh at it. It's the annual Lenten silliness and not to be taken seriously.

DOING NOTHING ABOUT THIS . . . .

RESULTED IN THIS . . . .

Were the Democrats paying attention?

Apparently not!

ACADEMY AWARDS

For fatuous, self-congratulatory, shallow idiocy - you cannot beat the Annual Academy Awards broadcast and last night was no exception.

I have to say that giving an Academy Award to that sanity-impaired, bloated, bloviating, slide-show-producing lisping bonehead who used to be Vice President of the United States destroys into infinity any possibility of ever respecting any nomination for documentary.

Ellen deGeneres was clearly out of her element. The acceptance speech by that Italian composer (entirely in Italian) was the unintentionally hilarious highlight of the show. The look on Clint Eastwood's face was priceless.

Tip to performers who actually HAVE figures - we don't need to see your superstructure nearly bouncing out of the top of your gown! A little mystery please.

I adore Helen Mirren and respect Forrest Whittaker. Alan Arkin won for being around forever. It's long past time that Martin Scorcese won.

Beyond that, the entire show was boring, utterly banal and hardly something to encourage attendance at movies. I actually DVRd the show and zipped through it quickly this morning. My NetFlix subscription looks better and better to me all the time!

SIGMUND, CARL AND ALFRED

This brilliantly written and reasoned blog has some true "money quotes" for us today:

The real inquisitors of today are those who preach and seek to ‘finish the job’ and either seek new holocausts, with new victims or ignore today’s holocausts because they interfere with their political agendas. The foot soldiers of the real inquisitors of today are those that would withhold freedom from those less fortunate, and leave them to be devoured by the beasts of tyranny.

***

The real inquisitors are those who who support an agenda of hate as opposed to John Paul II’s agenda of faith. The real Inquisitors are those who deliberately mischaraterize faith and those who choose faith as a way of life. That deliberate mischaracterization is a deliberate result of denial- an attempt to negate even the possibility that people with religious beliefs and values are moral equivalents to those who are non believers.

USING HUMOR IN THE SERVICE OF OUR NATION

I have long believed that the best way to defeat many, if not all, of our nation’s enemies (within AND without) is with humor. Think about it – does Jane Fonda have a sense of humor? No. Does Mookie? Certainly no. Does Jack Murtha? Hillary Rodham Clinton? No and No.

In this op-ed in last Thursday's New York Post, Ralph Peters takes precisely the correct approach. To read his entire op-ed, go here.

"MOOK'S SPOOKED
By RALPH PETERS

February 15, 2007 --
LOOKS like our team won this round of Spook-the- Mook. A best-in-show source in Baghdad confirms that Muqtada al-Sadr took off on a road-trip to Iran. And he wasn't just cruising in search of a Reuben sandwich.

The game ain't over until the fat mullah's scared. No matter how he tries to explain it away, Muqtada's public cowardice is going to hurt him - after he encouraged his followers to martyr themselves. There already had been rumors of mutinies in the Mahdi Army that threatened Mookie himself. One more reason to run.

It's going to be hard for him to maintain his image as an Iraqi nationalist after running to mommy back in Qom or Tehran. To be fair, the Mookster hasn't always done Iran's bidding in the past - but now he's going to owe the Shiraz Sopranos.

Oh, and that trusted source tells me that Mookie's not the only bad actor who's fled the country - he's the marquee act, but the supporting cast took off, too. Leaving the chumps with the push-brooms to deal with the mess.

We and the Free Iraqis shouldn't miss a chance to portray that melon-bellied bigmouth as a wuss. He's always been glad to deliver fiery sermons, but whenever we delivered firepower he disappeared - letting others do the fighting for him."
SPEAKER PELOSI IS WHINING; BULL DOG PUNDIT TELLS HER WHY SHE'S WRONG TO DO SO!

The always provocative, frequently brilliant Bull Dog Pundit examines the whining of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when the Vice President of the United States DARED to question the efficacy of the Dems’ so-called plan to “bleed the troops home” which is another word for saying “abandon the Iraquis” who have paid a FAR HIGHER price so far than has our military and who should expect our continuing support until they can stand on their own two feet, a condition which is still (despite the Dems’ claims) moving along quite nicely, thank you.

The money quotes, to me are as follows:

"Seriously, can any sane person gather that Cheney is questioning anyone’s patriotism? He’s not saying that Pelosi and Murtha want Al Queda to win - just that the plan they have would play right into Al Queda’s hands."

........

"But to Pelosi, such a comment should not even be debated. Which of course, is ludicrous."

.........

"And maybe she ought to realize that the reason some people out there question her patriotism (the Vice President is not one of them) is because many see her plan as harming the national security interests of the United States and handing the enemy a victory."

THE ANCHORESS HITS ANOTHER ONE RIGHT OUT OF THE BALLPARK!

And with her usual style and wit, as per this post:

"Well, slap my ass and call me Sally, but it seems to me that a strong and confident campaign does not demand that other candidates denounce their supporters and return contribution checks to them, but this is what Hillary Clinton’s campaign does all the time! Particularly if an opponant’s donor has dared to say something mean about poor old Hillary, who is just a girl and should be treated nice, because politics is about niceness and sweetness, and she would never, never indulge in a scorched earth, slash-and-burn sort of politics, herself. "

Like The Anchoress, I agree that Hillary Clinton is more and more displaying the essential nature of a loser. The gal just ain't presidential! I have wondered for the past six years how she was going to react when it came to the rough-and-tumble of a national, presidential campaign where she can no longer be protected from (ah, the horror) an independent and non-beholden press. Well, the cracks in the veneer Hillary has carefully applied over a period of many years are already starting to show, only to grow larger as the weeks and months of this protracted presidential campaign continues.

Will she be the Democratic Party nominee? Maybe.

Will she be elected President? Very doubtful.

And that's a good thing.
FANTASTIC QUOTE FROM AN OSCAR NOMINEE

HILLARY CALLED FOR A WITHDRAWAL OF AMERICAN TROOPS FROM IRAQ TO START IN 90 DAYS - SHE DID THIS LAST FRIDAY (2/16/07) AND NOBODY IN THE MSM SEEMS TO HAVE NOTICED!

A quick stroll over to The Daily Acts showcases this stunning story.

PORTSMOUTH, NH--In a stunning reversal of position, Democratic presidential frontrunner Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) Friday called for a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq within 90 days. "Now it's time to say the redeployment should start in 90 days or the Congress will revoke authorization for this war," Clinton said in a video on her campaign website.

Constitutional scholars are unsure Congress has the ability to "de-authorize" a war. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has speculated that such a move might kick-off a constitutional crisis between the legislative and executive branches of the federal government.Clinton's call for withdrawal of U.S. troops is seen as the culmination of Clinton's evolving position on Iraq, which critics say is designed to appeal to anti-war voters in the Democratic Party.Clinton's plan comes in the form of what she calls the Iraq Troop Protection and Reduction Act, a measure she introduced on Friday. This is just more of the Clinton sophistry and deceit. They care little for the creation of a constitutional crisis. In typical fashion, this prevaricating, humorless harpy will put a bill on the table that creates just that and then blame it on someone else. It's what she does!

According to Clinton, the first piece of her plan would "stop the president's escalation," by disallowing Bush to send more troops to Iraq."My bill would cap the number of troops in Iraq at January 1st levels," she continues. "It would be against the law to send more." I was not aware that Hillary Rodham Clinton had been delegated the powers of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. military. I'm sure our military would not be happy to hear that either, given her oft-expressed contempt for them.

"Second, this bill protects the troops by making sure they are not sent to Iraq without all the training and equipments they need," Clinton states in her video."

"Third, this bill puts an end to the blank check for the Iraqi government," she says. "We need to give them real benchmarks with real consequences if they don't meet them." Sort of like you putting Bill on "time out" Hillary?

"Fourth, we need to convene an international conference," she says. "And finally, we need to begin a phased redeployment of our troops out of Iraq," Clinton concludes. This is the left's solution to EVERYDAMNTHING - have another time wasting, nothing accomoplished, soul sucking CONFERENCE. The American people are not willing to cede their sovereignty to other countries you seditious leftwing, amoral crone - not now, not ever!

Clinton voted in favor of authorizing the invasion of Iraq in 2002.
THE LEFT - INTELLECTUAL LIGHTWEIGHTS!

Sigmund, Carl and Alfred provide a masterful and highly intelligent discussion of the intellectual paucity of the left in today’s post “I Once Was Lost, But Now I’m Found” And Pointing Fingers. It is an enormously worthwhile read.

One Minute Each Night

In WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people, who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute, to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace.

There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If you would like to participate: each night at 9:00 PM Eastern time, (8:00 PM Central) (6:00 PM Pacific), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, and for a Godly nation.

If you know anyone who would like to participate, please pass this along. Someone said if Christians and Jews really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Together, we CAN make a difference! Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

BUSH DERANGEMENT SYNDROME RUN AMOK!

Last night on Paula Zahn's program on CNN, a discussion was being held about Former Miami Heat superstar Tim Hardaway telling a local sports radio show that he "hates gay people".

First of all, one of the panel members felt it was his job to shout down and talk over every single sentence uttered, even if it was in support of his own position. Paula, if you cannot get your guests to observe the minimal rules of civility, they should not be invited onto your show.

Second, the most unbelievable demonstration of Bush Derangement Syndrome issued out of the mouth of this same rude panel member when he actually segued into blaming Hardaway's statements on President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney, labeling them the "homophobes in chief" and stating that all of this percolates down from them! When someone interjected that perhaps this panelist was going rather far afield in his accusation, he was shouted down with the assertion that if you don't believe in gay marriage, you are a homophobe! He was reminded that Vice President Cheney's daughter is gay and he pronounced that irrelevant and actually had the brass balls (no pun intended) to state that Vice President Cheney is ashamed of his own daughter - based on what evidence I'm sure I cannot tell you.

My first reaction was undiluted fury. That was also my second reaction as well.

These people who make these kinds of outlandish and wild-eyed accusations are seriously unbalanced and I'm starting to fear for our Republic as a result. And at the risk of being attacked ad hominem, what Hardaway said was reprehensible and he should be held accountable for his indefensibly nasty words, but so should Paula Zahn's guest who made such impossibly demented and irresponsible accusations against the President of the United States and the Vice President of the United States. And Paula Zahn should be held responsible for allowing that kind of delusional hate speech on her program.

Actor and Hunk - Maurice Benard
Just because he's GORGEOUS!
And because he was ROBBED by not getting a nomination for Best Daytime Actor this year!
He is brilliant, enormously talented and the dimples are to die for!
ANNA NICOLE SMITH SAGA!

Clearly, nobody is willing to let this poor woman rest in peace. Everybody but Boy George has claimed to be the father of her baby, her mother is parading around in the Bahamas (followed by a camera crew of course) making a big show of trying to see her granddaughter (although Anna Nicole Smith explicitly said she did not ever want her mother to see the baby), people are preventing the decent burial of this woman and claims and accusations are flying.

Here's a thought: Authorities: Take a DNA sample of Anna Nicole and then let Howard K. Stern claim her body and put it to rest next to that of her son Daniel. Next, Mr. Stern, Mr. Birkhead and anyone else who is claiming to be the child's father - submit the damned DNA samples IMMEDIATELY and get the child's paternity settled sooner rather than later. Then whoever turns out to be the father, take the child and go into seclusion to raise her! The circus needs to leave town already.
WELL HASN'T THIS BEEN SPECIAL!?

That damned groundhog has a lot to answer for! He predicts an early Spring and the weather hounds of HELL come hurtling down on the Midwest and Eastern parts of this country!

Went home from work at noon on Tuesday, hunkered in and relaxed with the two pussycats, ASSUMING I'd be able to go to work on Wednesday - foolish child that I am! Got a call Wednesday morning from dear co-worker Debra, the office was closed and would I call my boss, which I did. Went back to bed and slept for another couple of hours, in a snuggly pile with Sam and Tim who were delighted to have their mommy home!

Talked to Sis around noon. Her office was open but she and her carpool had decided it wasn't worth the risk of negotiating I-95 from Fredericksburg up to D.C. She spent a great deal of time clearing her driveway - including shoveling the snow at the end of the drive to the left and right in such a way that the snowplows (in the eventuality that they actually got to her street) would not reblock the driveway. She is SO smart, that woman! One of the many reasons that she is also my best friend. She told me via e-mail this morning that she spent a lot of time watching her (male) neighbors clearing and re-clearing the ends of their driveways throughout the afternoon as the snowplows indeed made several passes down her street - blocking up other peoples' driveways but not hers.

The reason she told me this story was not to bash men but rather because I was ranting and raving this morning about the state of incompetence of the drivers here in Columbus, Ohio. Of course they pull across intersections they have no hope of clearing before the light changes. But of course, they think they are far more important than those hapless citizens who are trying to pull across the intersection or, worse yet, onto the street that they have blocked. Idiots!

I have rotten things to say frequently about Los Angeles, California - but in the early 90s, because of the prevalence of just that kind of self-absorbed, utterly selfish and stupid behavior, the City of Los Angeles enacted legislation putting some heavy penalties onto that kind of behavior and then they enforced it! It made the commute a lot less unpleasant in bad (rainy) weather. The City of Angels has a lot of flaws, but once in a while they do something right.

So here I am back at work and glad beyond comprehension that today is already Thursday. This has been an awesomely horrible week and I cannot wait for the week to be over. Other than a couple of errands on Saturday morning, I'm going to hang with the kitties.

THE WEATHER IS HORRENDOUS TODAY!

Our office is closing for the day and being realistic, by the time I take one hour to drive 5 miles, I probably won't be in the mood for further posts! I'm just weird that way.
To those of you who are similarly experiencing this charming winter weather, keep safe, keep warm and don't drive unless you absolutely have to do so!

Frankly, if that damned groundhog hadn't predicted an early Spring, I doubt this weather would be happening today!

GRAMMY AWARDS -2007

Anyone who doesn't think Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks is a complete idiot only needed to see that appalling white dress she wore when they were performing early in the show.

Natalie, not only have you no POLITICAL brains (or any brains at all for that matter), you don't own a flipping full length mirror. My ass IS as big as yours and I would never adorn it with ruching in glimmering white fabric! But then my IQ is above-average and yours is barely discernible.

Snarky? Damned straight it is! I didn't like her BEFORE she opened her pie hole!

DEATH OF A CENTERFOLD

The death yesterday of Anna Nicole Smith at the age of 39 was both shocking and almost predictable, given the astonishing turmoil of this young woman’s life.

I have read and heard some amazingly nasty comments essayed about the death of this young woman. I found them reprehensible in the extreme. This was a human being above all else, albeit her appearance and demeanor seemed almost cartoonish at times. She was an 11th grade dropout whose only currency was beauty – and that she had. She was seriously uneducated and, from all appearances, not blessed with much intelligence. But she gave life her best shot and her largest mistakes seem to have stemmed from allying herself with some questionable men. From today’s perspective, perhaps her smartest decision was her marriage to Billionaire Marshall who seemed to sincerely care about her – although not enough to make his final wishes explicit on paper!

The death of her son, in her hospital room, 3 days after the birth of her daughter seems to have been the final blow in a life that was marked by persistent striving. The death of one’s child is the cruelest blow a woman can suffer – and the newborn daughter for whom she was responsible clearly was a comfort, but in the end no substitute.

As to the two men in her life: Howard K. Stern strikes me as a somewhat murky character (“slick” men don’t appeal to me at all), while Larry Birkhead’s insistence on an immediate DNA test to determine the paternity of Anna Nicole’s daughter (and her custody) can be viewed as either the efforts of a dedicated and sincere father or of someone to obtain and retain custody of Anna Nicole’s only heir.

And so, while Anna Nicole may have found peace at last, and reunion with her beloved son, the legal turmoil of this young woman’s tumultuous life seems certain to continue for a great many months, if not years, to come. In the end, it’s entirely possible that only the attorneys will profit.

I pray for the future of her 5 month old daughter and hope that, whoever is determined to be her biological father, that man will give this innocent little girl a safe, secure and PRIVATE life filled with the love and tranquility that so eluded her mother during her all-too-short life.

UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE UPDATE: Can this case get any more insane? Now Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband is claiming that HE is the father of Anna Nicole Smith's daughter? The man is 59 years old, is married to a 90 year old woman (gee, maybe they had more in common than you'd think) and is the same man who (with Zsa Zsa) sued the manufacturers of Viagra because it had made him "impotent without it"!

VERSACE SAYS SENATOR CLINTON SHOULD ESCHEW PANTSUITS

"BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should tap into her feminine side and wear dresses and skirts instead of trousers, fashion designer Donatella Versace was quoted as saying on Thursday.

"I can understand (trousers) are comfortable but she's a woman and she is allowed to show that," Versace told Germany's weekly newspaper Die Zeit in an interview."
Clearly, Ms. Versace considers running for the Presidency of the United States to be some kind of red carpet moment! I believe I have made it quite evident that I do not like, respect or in any way admire Hillary Rodham Clinton, but as a woman I am VERY insulted by this suggestion on a number of levels. This continued insistence in many quarters that women, to be professional, must appear in public wearing dresses or suits with skirts is offensive on its face. Qualifications and substance matter; style does not! Character is important; a skirt is not.

Ms. Versasce's comments trivialize Mrs. Clinton's current position as a United States Senator, and her aspirations (offensive though I may find them) to be our nation's President.

Gore says Bush administration paying scientists to dispute global warming

MADRID , SPAIN (CNN) --

Former Vice President Al Gore said in an interview on Tuesday the Bush administration is now paying scientists to dispute global warming since the administration can no longer argue against it.During an interview with CNN affiliate Cuatro in Madrid, Gore said, "they've lost the argument and they don't want to stop dumping all this pollution into the Earth's atmosphere. The only thing they have left is cash and now they're offering cash for so-called skeptics who will try to confuse people about what the science really say. But it's unethical because now the time has come when we have to act."Gore was the Democratic nominee against Bush in the 2000 presidential election. His film, An Inconvenient Truth, is up for the best documentary Oscar."

Every time this man opens his mouth, he heightens my relief that George W. Bush won the presidency in 2000 and again in 2004. I think the loss in the year 2000 completely unhinged Albert Gore, Jr. and he has never, ever recovered. So why in heaven's name should ANYONE take his bloviating seriously? Let alone nominate that wretched piece of propaganda and posturing for an Oscar?

I ADMIRE AND RESPECT SENATOR JOSEPH LIEBERMAN

If you want to know why, go here.

Thank you Senator Lieberman for displaying grace, courage and the power of true conviction and patriotism in your speech last night on the Senate floor.

The saddest thing about it is that most of those knuckleheads didn't really "get" what you were saying.
WILLIAM ARKIN – DESPICABLE AND DEMENTED

The powers that be at NBC Network, particularly in the news division but also clear to the top (Wright, Zucker, et al.) are permitting and probably even encouraging the kind of unadulterated crap written by NBC News military analyst William Arkin in the Washington Post about our military. It was insulting, untrue and absolutely despicable and an insult to every man and woman in the military who are doing a dirty job that is both necessary and one that none of these pantywaists would ever have the "sand" to do themselves. And despite their weasely statement, Arkin is not JUST a columnist for the Washington Post - he is also part of the NBC "family".

Regardless of political leanings, all of us are being kept safe by these military personnel. Further, while Mr. Arkin is clearly in the thrall of hate-America-itis (despite fully taking advantage of all that this country has to offer him - including the freedom to make an ass of himself), the people at GE and the people at NBC might want to consider that their corporate performance rises and falls based on the public's perception of their executives and employees and right now - they are failing miserably (as the NBC and MSNBC ratings clearly show). So from a strictly CORPORATE point of view, insulting our military and the many, many millions of Americans who fully support the President and the military and their mission in Iraq, is gross stupidity!

Much as I enjoy some programs (“Law and Order” franchise) on NBC, I will neither watch NBC nor purchase GE products if Mr. Arkin and those who facilitate his stupidity at NBC are not severely disciplined - as far as I'm concerned, both Wright and Zucker should be gone anyway. Promoting Zucker when his entire record is one of abject failure makes no sense whatsoever. I never read the Washington Post (described to me many years ago as "Pravda on the Potomac").

And kudos to Bill O’Reilly (a man I usually criticize severely) for making sure that Arkin’s remarks were thoroughly excoriated in one of the most impassioned and blistering critiques O'Reilly has uttered of late!

Brian Joubert, French National and European Champion

2007 EUROPEAN FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

I finally got to see the 2007 European Figure Skating Championships over the weekend, and thus got a preview of what our U.S. skaters face in terms of competition at the World Figure Skating Championships in March in Tokyo.

Men
Brian Joubert did not skate with the intensity he displayed at Cup of Russia, but he scarcely needed it as he was not faced with truly serious competition in the absence of reigning world champion Stéphane Lambiel of Switzerland. An interesting reason was given for Lambiel’s absence – not that he is ill or injured, but rather that Mr. Lambiel feels himself to be “lacking the sacred fire” necessary to compete – whatever THAT means! Lambiel is Swiss and thus, perhaps not operating to the same drummer that you and I are able to hear.

My prediction: If Stéphane Lambiel is still sacred-fire-deficient and doesn’t show up, Brian Joubert will be seriously challenged by both Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir, as well as Tomas Verner (CZE) and Sergei Davydov (BLR). The wild card is the always mercurial Emanuel Sandhu of Canada who should never be discounted, as well as his countryman Jeffrey Buttle who, if healthy, could pose a definite threat. However, in the end – and perhaps deservedly so – the matinee idol from France will win the World Championships, IF he brings his Cup of Russia “A” game to the world championships! I predict, in the absence of Lambiel, Joubert-gold, Lysacek-silver, Buttle-bronze. Buttle misses the podium if Lambiel is skating, but I don’t truly see him challenging Joubert’s “A” game.

Women
Carolina Kostner of Italy, despite a somewhat flawed performance, won the ladies’ competition over the up-and-coming Swiss lady, Sarah Meier, whose skating I admire a great deal. What is it about the Swiss – they are the MOST amazing spinners!

If our skaters skate their best, we should have at least one lady on the podium (Meissner), perhaps two (Meissner and Czizny) but the Japanese women are an enormous threat, as is the lovely and enormously gifted young skater from South Korea who is coached by the extraordinary Brian Orser.

All in all, this category is a huge tossup!

Pairs
Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany won the Pairs title, but I don’t really see them as a threat to the best world team – Zhen and Zao. I know why Petrova and Tikonov are still competing (the Russian Federation needs them to “bookmark” the number of pairs permitted to compete in upcoming competitions), but they truly are the MOST boring pair team I’ve ever seen. The great pleasure was the joy of Mariusz Siudek and Dorota Siudek who won the bronze. They have been around for a long time and have always been underappreciated, despite their beautiful and consistent skating abilities and performances. It made the Polish audience pretty happy to see them on the podium too.

Inoue and Baldwin of the U.S. are mid-range skaters with one spectacular trick, but the new kids on the block – Brooke Castile and Ben Okolski, who just grabbed the Pairs championship away from them, are quite exciting to watch. However, they don’t yet possess the polish of some of the premiere pair teams and it’s my prediction that Zhen and Zao are going to walk away with their last World Championship easily! If they truly do retire after Worlds, they will be sorely missed. They are the class of the field whenever they compete.

Ice Dancing
Rumors seem to be flying that the Ice Dance judges are attempting to get up to their old tricks, pushing Russia’s Domnina and Shabalin (nowhere near the technical skaters of any of the other top pairs, with questionable stamina and sloppy elements within the program) to win the World Championship in March. Presumably they will be unable to maneuver this, given the fact that they are being closely watched and because of the quality of skating emanating from both Denkova and Staviski and Belbin and Agosto. In addition, Delobel and Schoenfelder of France – who won the European Championship – although far from my favorite ice dancers (a little too robotic and cold in their presentation) are quite thick in the mix. Quite honestly, Denkova and Staviski SHOULD HAVE won the European title, and if the ISU is paying attention – the resultant investigation should clip the judges’ wings for a while. A number of judges were recently reinstated after being suspended several years ago. A good argument for lifetime bans in my estimation!

All in all, in a world where so much is angst inducing, something as (relatively) uncomplicated as a figure skating competition is great to be appreciated.

THE INCOMPARABLE WIDE AWAKE CAFÉ

Laura Lee Donoho delivers a masterful “smackdown” to the spineless wimps of the Republican Party now serving in the House and Senate.

I’m one of those Americans. If the Republicans are not going to stand up for victory and in support of the President I won’t back them. If they haven’t learned any lessons from the past election they are beyond teaching and need to lose the next election.

That I, a staunch Republican from a long line of genealogical Republicans feel so strongly about our need to win in Iraq and Iran if need-be, am willing to drop my support for the round heels in the party who are more interested in their own status and electability than in winning, we are in pretty bad times. They are not listening to us, they are not even listening to Petraeus, Fallon and Gates. They are, however, sending out their spokesmen to try to correct us!

I am inclined to agree with her. I am a lifelong Republican and I am fed up to my eyebrows with their “scurrying for cover” sycophantic behavior! Either you stand for something or get the hell out of the way!

We have about a year folks to kick these idiots in the derriere and make sure they realize what they have to lose.

If not, it may be time for a clean sweep. My only hesitation is that you cannot trust a Democrat with national security on the longest day you live and that’s worrisome. We see what’s happening right now in the Congress. I cannot imagine how out of control they would be without SOME small measure of opposition.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office. "
H. L. MenckenUS editor (1880 - 1956)

I can but wonder what the revered Mr. Mencken would have to say about Hillary Rodham Clinton, John F. Kerry, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha and Edward Moore Kennedy (among others too numerous to list)! Given Mencken's gift for invective, it might have been somewhat entertaining!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN PURCHASE THIS MIRROR?

IF YOU’RE FEELING DISCOURAGED BY THE RAMPANT STUPIDITY IN THE MSM

Personally, I have been VERY dispirited of late due to the vast assortment of downbeat, negative and just plain vituperative reporting in all areas of the MSM. Everywhere you look or listen, there is yet another speech by the “I support the troops but not the War” crowd of lying, sanctimonious cowards.

Therefore, it was with great joy this morning that I read the following two articles in the American Spectator online. I commend them to your attention. They WILL make you feel better.

Ben Is So Right by R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. Published 2/1/2007 12:08:00 AM is both a tribute to the wonderful country in which we are so fortunate to live AND to the remarkable Ben Stein who oftimes proclaims that fact.

The Nation's Pulse - My Two Bits by Happy Feder Published 2/1/2007 12:07:39 AM describes a part of America that is very much like the one many of us knew growing up - and opines that it could be that way again if we all start telling the bomb throwers that they aren't welcome and we don't agree with their bad manners, rude discourse and sanity-challenged behavior.

If, like me, you've been feeling like the America you once knew is falling apart, these two pieces will give your soul a jolt of pleasure.
