HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

And lest we forget amidst the fireworks that frighten our animals until they need doggie and cat downers and the excessive (and delicious) foods being barbecued, this is the anniversary of the founding of our nation!

So let us please honor the ideals (and the Constitution) that provided our country with a standard of living unequaled in this world and has provided our people with the freedom to be as creative and generous as we have always been.

THIS LAND IS BLESSED BY GOD

I am sometimes (frequently) moved to wonder how much longer He is going to protect us from our worst instincts!

We elect poltroons and completely incompetent idiots to public office. We tolerate their bloviating and their apparent disregard of the fact that they work for us and not the other way around. We allow them, without objection, to pack massive quantities of pork into otherwise benign legislation. We are complicit in allowing some of them (Edward Moore Kennedy) to make a career out of serving in the U.S. Congress which was never what was intended by our nation's founders. We are often self-serving, all too frequently lazy about examining public policy, we spend almost our entire time focused on our own selfish pursuits in lieu of holding our public servants' feet to the fire and demanding that they do the jobs we elected them to do.

If I were God I would be thoroughly disgusted with the American people in general, the leftwingers most of all. He has given us this beautiful, rich in natural resources land with a Constitution framed by some of the most remarkable men who have ever lived. And we don't focus enough attention on preserving our gift.

This year and next year, in the November elections, we really must give some serious attention to the candidates for whom we vote. No more slackers and men of dubious provenance such as our current President. Let's make a real effort to elect patriots and honest men of character to the various state and Federal offices. Candidates who honor and value this beautiful country are in short supply, but we must make every effort to find them.

The ACORN folks will be doing everything in their power to thrwart our efforts to take back OUR country from their dishonest and thuggish hands. We must and should resist with everything we possess.

Catching Wild Pigs

A chemistry professor in a large college had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting Communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new Communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America . The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we continually lose our freedoms -- just a little at a time.

One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

If you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , then spread the word.

If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably ignore this post, but God help you when the gate slams shut!

In this 'very important' election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you !! Just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America.

I AM AN AMERICAN

I am an American and when I ask a candidate for president to outline the specifics of his platform, I expect him to do so. I do not expect to be told that it is (a) too complicated to explain in a short while or (b) too complicated to explain to my little pea brain. Tell me the truth and tell it to me concisely and in a straightforward fashion. Trust me, I’ll understand you, despite my bitterness and strong attachment to my religion and my weapons. I expect you to be willing and able to defend your positions without screaming "racism" or "unfair", so long as the questions are asked in a reasonably respectful fashion. If you are too thin-skinned to deal with ME, one of your own countrymen, it is hideous to imagine how impossible you will find it to deal with Putin or Ahmadinejad! They don't give a flip for your sensitive feelings fella!

I am an American and I am offended to the very marrow of my being when any campaign apparatus treats an opposition candidate with disdain or any other kind of unfair or untrue rhetoric. Senator Obama and his surrogates need to knock it off and do it now. Governor Sarah Palin and her family are NOT your piñatas!

I am an American and I don’t really give a rat’s eardrum what Europe thinks of me or my nation. Next time some totalitarian lunatic invades your country, do us a favor and save your OWN asses for a change.

I am an American and, as such, a member of one of the most generous populations on earth. Experience a Tsunami? We’ll be there with relief for those most adversely affected. Having a hurricane? We’ll help you rebuild. Are you having an epidemic of some dread disease? We’ll get the vaccine right on over to you. Because you cannot budget your own resources, your population is starving to death? We’ll hop right on over with relief supplies. And when we’re in trouble due to a natural disaster, with few exceptions, we also know that none of you will return the favor. Here’s a thought – start dealing with your own shit and leave us alone.

I am an American and I know that this election is about whether or not our nation will be kept safe by our next Commander in Chief. I can see Senator John McCain keeping our nation safe. I can see Governor Sarah Palin keeping our nation safe. All I can see Senator Barack Hussein Obama doing is babbling on and on, hoping at some point his plethora of words will put the enemy to sleep. Here’s the deal: That doesn’t work, Bambi.

I am an American and I am voting for the McCain/Palin ticket in November. To do anything else would be suicidal and stupid!

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM MY HANDSOME AND BRILLIANT COUSIN ERNIE

The purpose of fighting is to win.
There is no possible victory in defense.
The sword is more important than the shield and skill is more important than either.
The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental."
-- John Steinbeck

1- Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he's too old to fight, he'll just kill you. [Note from Gayle: This also applies to old WOMEN. As my estrogen decreases, my fuse shortens!]
2- If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
3- I carry a gun 'cause a cop is too heavy.
4- America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the mall. (Ain't this the gospel truth!)
5- When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away. (shoot first - then call 911).
6- A reporter did a human interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?". The Ranger responded with, "Because they don't make a 46."
7- An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.
8- The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. "Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?" "No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle."
9- Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it.

DECEMBER 7, 1941 - A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY

My father and mother were moving the last of her possessions from Pittsburgh to Cleveland. They had just married in September of the previous year. They had stopped for gas when the news about the bombing of Pearl Harbor came across the radio. Since I was born in July of 1942, it's entirely possible that I was already a little bun in the oven!

Both my parents were conservative Republicans and neither liked FDR even a little bit - but they always said that his speech to Congress was the best they'd ever heard. And give the politicians of that time full credit - NONE OF THEM were the quisling, defeatist cowards that our current crop have proven to be! Americans were just that - AMERICANS. We weren't hyphenated Americans in those days. And certainly none of them were demented enough to suggest doing cartwheels in the U.S. Senate! I always knew Harry Reid was a questionable patriot but until this morning I didn't know that he was dopey as well!

Many things on the American landscape have changed, some of them even for the better, but I'm not sure our national CHARACTER is even close to being equal to the character of those who comprised "the greatest generation" - among those fabulous people were my cousin Eddie Chupick and my Uncle Jumbo. My father served as a troubleshooter in defense plants (he was an engineer and thus uniquely qualified to be on the lookout for sabotage and stupidity). He later said that stupidity was much more common, so in that respect I think probably we haven't changed a great deal.

Even all these years later, those who died at Pearl Harbor and in World War II which followed are and should be honored and mourned by all of us. In my family, we do have one cause for celebration. My mother's nephew Ernie met a beautiful and utterly charming British woman named Lucy while he was stationed in England. He married her and brought her home to us and she was a gift to us then and "at a certain age" she is still a gift to our entire family. And thanks to Ernie and Lucy - I have my 3 beloved cousins Debbie, Ernie and Scott and their wonderful families.

THE BEGINNING OF THIS GREAT NATION

April 19, 1775 - The "Shot Heard Round the World" - the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Too many Americans fail to know our nation's real history. Fewer still appreciate how very fortunate we are to be part of this great country.

Today is a good day to give thanks for our bounty as Americans.
