THE UNBEARABLE FOOLISHNESS OF MIKE NIFONG!

I have concluded, after sober consideration, that Mike Nifong of Durham, N.C. is a boneheaded baboon. Does anyone know where he got his law degree? Was mail order involved?

Okay, seriously folks, here’s the official stats on this guy from his website:

“A life-long resident of North Carolina, District Attorney Mike Nifong was born in Wilmington, where he graduated from New Hanover High School. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Herbert W. Jackson scholarship, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with an A.B. degree in Political Science in 1971.

Although he had decided on an eventual career in law while still in high school, Nifong worked for his first year after graduation from UNC as a teacher of mathematics and boys’ physical education in Southport. This was followed by a three-year stint as a social worker with the New Hanover County Department of Social Services in Wilmington before he finally enrolled in the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1975.

Upon graduation from the UNC School of Law and admission to the North Carolina Bar in 1978, Nifong sought a position as an Assistant District Attorney on the theory that it would be the best ticket to what he foresaw as a career in litigation. Initially unable to find such a job within the geographic confines of his search area, he volunteered to serve as an unpaid attorney with the District Attorney’s Office in Durham beginning in October 1978. That choice proved to be fortuitous, as District Attorney Dan K. Edwards, Jr., quickly secured funds to pay him on a full-time per diem basis.”

So those who are claiming (as if this would be a badge of honor) that he’s a graduate of Harvard Law clearly don’t have their facts about Mike Nifong straight. The information on his own website indicate that he was no superstar in law school. The superstars get recruited by the big law firms. As to the suggestion that Mike Nifong belongs to MENSA? I belong to that organization and have for nearly 40 years. You would not BELIEVE the characters the organization attracts and the complete lack of life skills that affect far too many of its membership. They are brilliant, that’s a given. But able to cope on a day-to-day basis. A certain amount of impairment is noticeable.

Mike Nifong doesn’t seem to be getting ANY facts straight about the so-called rape “victim” in the prosecution (persecution seems more and more likely) of three Duke University lacrosse players.

Nifong has been parsimonious in doling out the discovery materials to the defense attorneys for the three hapless victims of what I consider to be Nifong’s re-election scam, but sufficient details have emerged that show (in my opinion) conclusively that Nifong has no case and that “Precious” the “stripper” is lying through her teeth. We KNOW she had sex that night – and we know with whom. And they (apparently there were 3 “suitors” involved) weren’t WHITE and they didn’t go to DUKE and they didn’t play LACROSSE. And theirs is the ONLY DNA in evidence.

And now new evidence has emerged from the alleged victim’s cell phone records (records Prosecutor Nifong was curiously reluctant to release, although he is legally bound to do so), that she was ON HER CELL PHONE talking to her escort service during the time period when she claims she was being raped. Uh huh! And she never mentioned to whoever was on the other end of the line that she was having a spot of trouble? Yeah, right!

Prosecutor Nifong was extremely chatty during the time period leading up to the primary election and has been strangely reticent since then. Why is that, I wonder? Or maybe I don’t wonder at all.

What all of this has put into my mind is the prevalence of rape accusations and molestation accusations that have been bandied about so freely during the last 15-20 years. Women have discovered that, thanks to some over-the-top feminist rhetoric that has been published over the past 25 years, many women consider ALL MEN to be rapists. And there is power in being able to impose your will on someone who is physically stronger and perhaps more powerful in the eyes of the world by means of a false allegation of paternity, domestic abuse, child abuse or rape. And while I fully and completely understand that many of the shield laws were put in place to protect women’s reputations, maybe we’ve taken that just a tad too far? I guess what I’m saying is if the ACCUSER’S identity in one of these cases is shielded, then unless and until there is a CONVICTION in a court of law, shouldn’t the ACCUSED’S identity be protected as well? Because even one instance such as the current Durham persecution of three almost-certainly innocent college boys is one too many.

Finally, once again we come down to the simple notion that every right has a corresponding RESPONSIBILITY. So these kinds of allegations should not be made, prosecuted or publicized rashly and without basis.

That seems like a simple bit of common sense to me. What’s your take on it?
