"Even after the Super Bowl victory of the New Orleans Saints, I have noticed a large number of people implying with bad jokes that Cajuns aren't smart. I would like to state for the record that I disagree with that assessment. Anybody that would build a city 5 feet below sea level in a hurricane zone and fill it with Democrats is a genius". The extraordinary Anchoress has a posting called Anti-Clinton: Weirdest Headline of the Day on her site.
Apparently, if you give money to another person seeking the presidency, you are Anti-Clinton. My question is, why does the MSM consider that to be a perjorative term? Certainly, as the Anchoress correctly points out, George Soros was never described as making anti-Bush contributions (although that is inescapably true).
Why exactly has this POLITICIAN never had to face a tough question in two political campaigns in what is arguably, one of the tougher states in which to run for office. Last time I checked, New York people were neither dainty nor shy!

ANOTHER SO-CALLED “VICTIM” – THE WHINING OF ALCEE HASTINGS!
November 28, 2006, 8:04 a.m. The National Review
Alcee Hastings: I’m An Innocent Victim of Politics
He says his impeachment was a political hit job. The record says
otherwise.By Byron York
The procedures of the impeachment were discussed extensively at a July 26, 1988, meeting of the committee in which members unanimously voted in favor of articles of impeachment. At the meeting, Michigan Democratic Rep. John Conyers, who chaired the subcommittee which investigated Hastings, addressed the political issue head-on.
“It was said at times during the course of the subcommittee’s inquiry that impeachment is a political process, and that may be true, but it is also misleading,” Conyers said. “Impeachment is political in the sense that it is committed to the House of Representatives, a popularly elected
and, therefore, political body. Impeachment, however, is not, nor should it be, treated in the way that we treat a piece of legislation.”“An impeachment decision must be based upon the facts. It would be inappropriate, in my opinion, for any member of Congress to make factual determinations based upon polls or letters received or calls coming into one’s office or from any other secondary matter. “We must weigh the evidence and reach conclusions based upon what that evidence discloses, and not upon anything else.”Conyers, who at the beginning of the proceeding said he had initially doubted the charges against Hastings case and therefore took particular pains to make sure Hastings received fair treatment, then went on to list what the committee had done. He did not want to “rubberstamp” any previous investigation, Conyers said, so he and his investigators re-reviewed everything. “We reconstructed all of the hearings, trial materials, [and] grand jury information concerning the allegations,” Conyers said.
“We obtained complete records of the proceedings involving Judge Hastings before the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Council, the transcript of Judge Hastings’ criminal trial, and the transcript of the criminal trial of [Hastings’s alleged co-conspirator] William Borders. Independent interviews of
numerous persons were conducted.”All that would have been a time-consuming process under any circumstances. But Conyers told the committee that the investigators’ work was made more difficult by Hastings. “During the course of the inquiry, the subcommittee sought certain records from the courts,” Conyers continued. “Judge Hastings, despite his assertions that he was interested in a full and complete disclosure of the facts, resisted these efforts. The matters were litigated and ultimately the committee prevailed. The delay occasioned by the litigation, however, has probably doubled the amount of time spent conducting the inquiry.”
It’s bad enough when the “flying Imans” claim to be victims, despite their overtly provocative behavior, but a former judge really should know better!
Alcee Hastings was impeached and convicted because he was GUILTY and he has absolutely no business being the head of any Congressional committee, least of all intelligence! He is as “bent” as they come and would be an absolutely heaven-sent target of corrupters, because he is, after all, already corrupt!
Jane Harmon is qualified for the post and deserves it. We should all be writing to our congressmen demanding that Alcee Hastings be denied the post and that Jane Harmon be put in the position because she is far less likely to suborn our national security!

It seemed like a really good idea on Thanksgiving morning so I called friend Pam and suggested that we go to the Jeffersonville Outlet Mall (about 45 minutes south of Columbus, Ohio) for their Midnight Sale that night. I told her I’d be by at 11 p.m. to pick her up.
I went to visit my dear friend Dotty at the Rehabilitation Center where she is recuperating from some major health issues which included a mild stroke and then on to cousin Linda’s house where her family was gathered for Thanksgiving Dinner.
My cousin and her husband have 6 daughters between them, all but one of whom is married. One of Linda’s daughters lives in upstate New York so she wasn’t there, but all the rest of them were present with their children (3 for each girl, total 12), plus Linda’s sister and her boyfriend and me. A portion of the floor was a occupied by some of the smaller grandbabies playing with Barbies and trucks. Some of the older grandchildren are now, to my delight, quite interesting conversationalists. I must admit, it’s likely that I find their conversation enjoyable because they are, bless their hearts, conservatives one and all! Clearly the result of good parenting!
I got home about 5 p.m. and decided to play with the cats for a few minutes and then take a nap. I was up and out and picked up Pam and her son promptly at 11 p.m., and then the adventure began!
The trip was going smoothly, except that of course there was heavier-than-a-normal-Sunday-evening traffic heading south on I-71 for quite a while. Then it seemed to thin out. Then, about 5 miles before the Jeffersonville Outlet, the traffic stopped altogether! Two lanes worth! Clearly, I had not had an original idea!
We stuck with the debacle for nearly an hour – somehow hoping, I think, that it would thin out. It didn’t. Billy was comfortable with his book in the back seat. Did YOU know you could read by the light of your cell phone? I didn't either - but I suspect that is a skill possessed only by 23 year olds!
Finally, after sitting patiently in this long line of barely-moving traffic, we decided that it wasn’t worth the effort. I know – you would have bailed a lot earlier. Color me stubborn! Actually, Pam had opined that she needed a potty break and I offered to pull off at the rest area - several times. She didn't decide it was urgent until after we were PAST the exit to the rest area.
As we were nearing the Columbus area, I opined to Pam that I still felt the pangs of “shopping interruptus” and she agreed. So without much consultation, off we headed to Canal Winchester, Ohio – and WAL-MART! The best thing about Wal-Mart is that it’s open 24-hours per day! We arrived at 2:30 a.m. and got it out of our systems!

"I realize Democrats won the elections, but I believe the last thing the president should do the next two years is retreat from his agenda or extend the hand of bipartisanship to liberal Democrats who will only bite it off to a nub anyway.
The elections are not a mandate for the Democrats' policy agenda, because they didn't offer one. I tend to agree with the commentators who contend the elections were not a repudiation of conservative principles, but a referendum on the GOP's perceived competence. If so, the lesson should not be to tack toward the center, or radically alter their ideological approach, but to govern more effectively."
With all the self-congratulatory grandstanding going on in D.C. these days, it is good to remember that the Democrats have developed a reassuring genius for shooting themselves in the foot. That does not, however, mean that the Republicans should just assume that Democratic missteps will insure their return to power in 2008. In order for that to happen, the Republicans must engage in a thorough self-assessment and begin to correct the many mistakes they have made over the past few years.
I have said, BOTH frequently and as loudly as possible, that the Republicans have been groveling for far too long in the hopes that the Democrats will LIKE them. That isn’t ever going to happen. You can bank on it. BUT, had the Republicans exercised their power in a firm and unyielding fashion, the Dems would have at least respected them, which is the most we should expect.
Had Republicans stated loudly and unequivocally that the Bush bashing had to stop, the MSM might have been less slavish in their devotion to publishing every foul and untrue canard uttered by the left against our President.
Had we, as Republicans, been more active in defending our President and our interests as a nation, perhaps the MSM would have thought at least ½ second about piling it on to the extent that they have done.
Had we, as Republicans, communicated our deep disagreement with the President’s approach to illegal immigration, perhaps THAT debate would not have been quite so harmful.
Had we, as Republicans, communicated with our Congress at the first hint of the first scandal that we were not disposed to tolerate that kind of behavior, perhaps the utterly corrupt and cynical leftwing Dems would have had less with which to slander all Republicans.
Had we all exercised our RESPONSIBILITY as Americans and voted in this past election, might the outcome have been different? It might not have been – but now we’ll never know. Voting is not an elective – it is a requirement. Sitting on your hands is NEVER an option, I’m sorry.
We too share a responsibility for our own good government. It’s time that all of us started, to the extent we are able, to make sure our elected representatives know exactly what we want from them. To that end, do not think for one second that my new Senator from Ohio is going to be immune from inclusion in my mailing list, because he is not! I may not have voted for the s.o.b. but once he takes office, he is still responsible to me just as fully as he is to any other citizen of Ohio. And I intend to be certain he knows that!

Courage. Not necessarily my own because like most human beings, I’m somewhat inconsistent in the application, although I hope that I have been courageous more often than cowardly.
An example of courage was on view at the Cup of China figure skating competition, part of the Grand Prix series that leads to the World Championships each year.
In August of 2005, Zhao Hongbo, the male half of China's first figure skating pairs world champions Zhao Hongbo and Shen Xue, blew out his Achilles tendon, an injury which is almost always a career ending event for most athletes. During the 2005 Cup of China competition, Zhao Hongbo could be seen backstage walking with a cane.
I cannot even imagine the hard work and conditioning that permitted this brilliant team to come back and compete in the Olympics – but compete they did – winning the Bronze medal against nearly-impossible odds. To say that this was an inspirational feat of determination, hard work, skill and pure courage is obvious. It is what follows that is even more astounding.
At the 2006 Cup of China competition, this brilliant pair skated an almost otherworldly and beautifully powerful program, capturing the Gold Medal by over 20 points ahead of the next closest team. Their skating was passionate, lyrical, powerful and in the end, moved me to tears. My tears were of course for the sheer beauty of their skating but also, I have to say, as a recognition of the courage and dedication that brought these brilliant skaters to this pinnacle once again.
I was once a very determined but not naturally talented ice dancer – a long time ago. I remember what it was like to persevere against difficulties and must confess that I didn’t always possess the requisite courage to do so. Skating past pain requires reserves of strength, determination and faith in your own self that are unimaginable and I can only surmise that when you are the former 2 time World Champions and nearly sidelined forever by an excruciating injury, the strength of character needed is even more stupendous. While it might be easy to say that, after all, the Chinese skate for the glory of the State, what can be seen in Zhao Hongbo and Shen Xue (who must trust the strength of her partner’s arms AND legs for her own safety) transcends mere nationalism.
Zhao Hongbo and Shen Xue have hinted that they may retire after the 2007 World Championships. He is 33 years of age and though he has managed to somehow resuscitate his injured Achilles tendon in order to return to the ice, there is no doubt that he will never be able to entirely rely on his leg again. But oh, how I wish that somehow they won’t leave us too soon. Among the truly remarkable pair skaters I have ever seen, they rank right up there in the top 3 and there are times when they rival the legendary Oleg and Ludmilla Protapopov! And that in itself would have seemed to me to be unthinkable just five or six years ago!
So to Zhao Hongbo and Shen Xue – my complete appreciation and admiration, and no small amount of affection for your courage, strength and the sheer beauty of your pair skating. You are a treasure.
It's time to thank God for the blessing of having George W. Bush as our President during this past six years - and for another 2 years. If nothing else, with our encouragement and prayers, he will do his duty by deflecting the worst of the moonbattery that is destined to come from the decidedly liberal Congress, while preventing the craven in Congress from somehow instituting "cut and run" as our new national posture.
It's time, most of all, to thank God for our family, our friends and our good fortune to have the blessings that we do have.
TO ALL OF YOU, I WISH THE MOST JOYOUS OF THANKSGIVING HOLIDAYS and may the weight gain be negligible! After all - there's still Christmas to consider!
AND FROM THE SUBLIME TO THE RIDICULOUS:
National 'Nurse-In' Planned at U.S. Airports Over Treatment of Breast-Feeding Mom
Tuesday , November 21, 2006
MONTPELIER, Vt. — Twenty-four-old college student Valarie Roney doesn't have children, but she plans to park herself at an Atlanta airport "nurse-in" just the same — just on principal.
Pregnant mother Ashley Clark, 26, of Calverton, N.Y., accompanied by her 2-year-old son, will do the same in New York.
Others irate over the ejection of a nursing mother from a Delta Air Lines commuter flight in Burlington plan similar actions Tuesday at more than a dozen airports around the country. Among them: New York, Baltimore, Detroit, Nashville, Tenn., Minneapolis and Las Vegas.
"This is not an isolated incident," said Roney, of Carrollton, Ga. "It's every day in every city, people walking up to women feeding their babies, saying 'You should go to the bathroom,' or 'You should put a blanket over her.' They wouldn't want to eat in a bathroom or eat lunch with a blanket over their heads."

Actually, it was the most nerve wracking football game (and the best) in many, many years! And the game really went down to the wire which made it even more exciting. What's really weird is that the Ohio lottery pick 4 numbers that night were the exact same numbers as those in the score! Isn't THAT strange?
On to the national championship game now. I very much doubt that OSU's opponent will be Michigan. It's much more likely to be USC and if that is the case, it will be a fantastic contest!
And finally - a word about Wal-Mart: I was there at 9:15 yesterday morning, hoping to beat the rush to do my grocery shopping. They ALREADY had the sweatshirts proclaiming the Big Ten Championship WITH the game's score on sale. Now THAT IS efficient marketing! Needless to say, they were going at a great clip - but I did get mine and one for my sister for her Christmas present.
GO BUCKS!
Now Carl Levin (D-Losing Team) is REALLY going to be grumpy!

When you wrote out your ballot or punched out little cardboard “chads”, what audit trail did you have? I’ve been voting for 43 years and I cannot recall ANY.
This is a bogus issue, IMHO.
What is NOT a bogus issue is the poor security for these machines when they are not in use. And THAT my friends is not the fault of Diebold or any other manufacturer, or the Republican Party, or even the Democratic Party. The poor security measures used to protect the integrity of voting machines when they are "between" uses is the DIRECT AND SOLE RESPONSIBILITY of your local Board of Elections.
SO IF YOU DON’T LIKE how your voting machines are being secured, don’t start a “Kos”-like crusade against the manufacturer – take your complaints and concerns to the next public meeting of the Board of Elections. And, if you don’t get satisfaction on your first attempt, keep on going back. Write letters to the editor. Find other like-minded voters in your area to join in the campaign.
In other words, quit waiting for the other guy to take care of a problem and get on it yourself.
The Anchoress is providing us with a recipe for a scrumptious Meringue Cake on her site today! I'm going to try it. How about you?!
If I were not taking Nigella Lawson's QUADRUPLE Chocolate Loaf Cake (recipe available on the Food Network site) to my cousin Linda's house for Thanksgiving dinner, I'd make this. What the heck - I may make it anyway and bring it into the office as a gift of love (and calories) to my co-workers - yes, even the attorneys!

"Exultant Chuck Says He’ll Veto the Next Alito New King of Washington Promises Moderate Court; Rove-like, Plans Permanent Democratic Majority; More N.Y. Homeland Money, Iraqi Federalism
By Jason Horowitz writing in the New York
Sun"
I wasn't aware that a Senator, even Senator Shumer from New York State, one of 100 in a 51-49 Senate had usurped the powers of the Presidency! The hubris is absolutely mind-boggling!
The Republicans just don’t learn their lessons very well, do they? Despite the repudiation of many of their less savory policies by the voting base and the loss of their Congressional majority, they seem to have decided to continue doing business as usual.
How else to explain the selection of Mel Martinez (a perfectly nice but uninspiring man) over Michael Steele to head the RNC? Planning to have a majority any time soon guys?
How else to explain the willingness to consider Trent Lott as Minority Whip? While I considered the fall of Senator Lott to be a ridiculous travesty, over the years since that happened we have witnessed one of the finest imitations of Robert Byrd ever given by a U.S. Senator in Trent Lott’s pork-barrel addiction and his contempt for the voters who question his predatory money-grubbing.
Hint to the Republicans – here’s what Americans want:
1. Secure borders. That means do not ALLOW the border fence issue to be re-visited, except to increase its length and/or funding.
2. Support our military and our mission in Iraq. Despite his pretensions to the contrary, Senator Carl Levin is NOT the new Commander in Chief, nor should he be. Aside from the fact that he never SERVED in the military (which in an intelligent and courageous man would not be a disqualifier, but in Levin’s case certainly is), he is dedicated to undermining our military (like most liberals) and the good work done by them in Iraq.
3. Courage in standing up to the liberal nuttiness. For years I have been saying this and nobody seems to want to listen. THEY WILL NEVER LIKE YOU. Quit trying to achieve the impossible! Courage, strong moral character and resolve are something most liberals cannot muster on their best days and if you stand up to them and hold your ground, they will at least respect you. Quit kissing butt and start displaying the very real differences between us and them.
4. Do not succumb any longer to what the liberals are calling the “culture of corruption” – we are supposed to be the more ethical party. Being drunk with power is an unattractive trait in anyone – left or right or in between.
5. Continue the tax cuts to stimulate the economy in the way that it has been stimulated since their inception. Don’t TALK about how you are for the little guy – actually DO SOMETHING FOR THE LITTLE GUY! And remember - you let them stymie many good initiatives while you were in power. It's no sin to use THEIR tactics against them in a good cause.

Congressman Jack Murtha (D-PA) is positively cackling with glee as he prepares to stab our military in the back for no other reason than that he will be able to do so - or so he thinks. He is prepared to preside over another Vietnam defeat that, like the first one, is NOT inevitable and which is PREVENTABLE.
Nancy Pelosi, she of San Francisco values with the overly botoxed face and the incredibly shrill voice, is preparing for her own coronation as Speaker of the House of Representatives before even one caucus has been held to decide on who WILL be the Speaker.
Charlie Rangel is setting his sights on which tax cuts to destroy first, while impeachment investigations are being commenced unbeknownest to the great American public.
Alcee Hastings is preparing to bring his felonious and impeached self back to the Congressional forefront from which he was ejected a number of years ago.
As to their promises, the Dems have already broken two of them. They ARE preparing to cut and run and they ARE preparing to raise taxes on the rich.
OH YES, and our enemies are preparing new and more flamboyant attacks on our homeland because now, they believe, they can attack us unanswered. After all - in their minds - the Democrats, that grand party of cowardice, disloyalty, anti-military and anti-Americanism, are now in charge.
So to all of you who sat on your hands and did not vote - thanks a lot! Are you happy now? Are your content with the message you sent?

Dems Complete Election Sweep of CongressNov 08 9:25 PM US/Eastern
By LIZ SIDOTI
Democrats completed an improbable double-barreled election sweep of Congress on Wednesday, taking control of the Senate with a victory in Virginia as they padded their day-old majority in the House.
Jim Webb's victory over Sen. George Allen in Virginia assured Democrats of 51 seats when the Senate convenes in January. That marked a gain of six in midterm elections in which the war in Iraq and President Bush were major issues.
“Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation is a step in the right direction,” said Anthony D. Romero, ACLU Executive Director. “Rumsfeld is responsible for the torture and abuse of detainees in U. S. military custody and must be held accountable for the failures that occurred on his watch. He has placed the blame on junior military members and has been nothing but derelict in his duty. Congress must initiate an immediate and exhaustive investigation into his six-year-long record of unlawful activity, violations of the rule of law and complicity in the executive branch abuse of power.”
The new Congress hasn't even taken the oath of office (even if they don't MEAN IT - which many of them do not) and here we go!
Some Rumsfeld Moments:
The Secretary of Defense rushes BACK INTO the burning Pentagon in an effort to save some of his people.
The Secretary of Defense staging (and WINNING) 2 WARS!
The Secretary of Defense standing up to (and putting down when warranted) both the grasping, rude and dimwitted Defense Department Press Corps and some members of the U.S. Congress.
WE LOVE YOU RUMMY, AND WE WISH YOU WELL! Unfortunately, your like will not be seen soon again! Our nation is richer for having had you on the job for the past six years, and poorer for losing you now while danger still abounds - from without (the terrorists) and from within (the already power-drunk Democrats)!

And finally, what of Senator Joe Lieberman? He was BOTH abandoned and vilified by his own party. It would be astonishing to me if he did not remember that and act upon it.
Perhaps the best thing that has emerged from this election cycle is that finally and thankfully, Senator John F. Kerry (D-Teresa's Lap) has destroyed his own political career all by himself and we will no longer be subjected to the arrogant maunderings of this liberal idiot.
We will be living in interesting times between now and 2008.

Gold Star Families Take Secret Trip to Iraq
Delegation provides SacUnion with an exclusive account of trip
SacUnion Staff Report
Published: November 3, 2006 20:43 Last
Updated: November 6, 2006, 7:48 am
In a stunning and historic trip under the utmost secrecy, a delegation of families of fallen U.S. troops have traveled to Iraq to counter critics of the war effort, just days before the Nov. 7 midterm elections. The delegation of “Gold Star Families” agreed to provide the Sacramento Union with an exclusive account of their trip to Iraq based on the assurance that news of their mission would not be published until they had safely left Amman, Jordan.
So secret is their trip that even members of the Bush Administration were kept in the dark about their planned activities. They’ve come to Iraq from cities throughout America as part of a 12-person delegation in a history-making effort – no other coordinated group of “Gold Star Families” has ever traveled to Iraq, and they come with a message that is sure to ignite a firestorm of debate. Adding to the explosive nature of the trip is that it comes amid new reports from The New York Times that Saddam Hussein had a nuclear weapons program under development. Some analysts indicated Hussein could have been 1-2 years away from developing a usable nuclear weapon.
“The American people are shown a skewed picture of the situation in Iraq day after day by the international news media. We felt it was time to allow the families of U.S. troops who died in Iraq to come see the progress being made in Iraq and report it back to the American people ,” said Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward.
So our news media are so biased and ineffective that civilian monitors have to travel at their own expense into a dangerous situation in order to get the truth back to the U.S.? That's just despicable and a good reason to get out and vote tomorrow!

In a brilliant article appearing on Townhall.com today “Don’t Tread On Our Military”, David Limbaugh analyzes the indefensible remarks made by John F. Kerry (D-Teresa’s Lap) this past week inferring that our military are not as smart as say – the junior senator from Massachusetts!
Mr. Limbaugh opines:
This heightened voter scrutiny will remind voters that it was the Democrats who conspired to disqualify military ballots in 2000. It is Democrats who embrace far-left anti-war groups like Moveon.org and leftist blogs like Daily Kos. It is Democrats who have glorified Michael Moore, who publicly rooted for the enemy in Iraq. It is Democrats who have rushed to judgment to presume the guilt of our soldiers in Iraq accused of crimes. It is liberal professors who sneer at the military and the ROTC. It is Democrats who have essentially indicted the military by saying we haven't done enough to train Iraqi troops and haven't wisely conducted the Iraq war, since President Bush has largely delegated the running of the war and the training of the troops to the generals.(Just imagine - President Bush is leaving the conduct of a war to the trained professionals!)
Mr. Limbaugh is absolutely correct.
VOTE ON NOVEMBER 7th. If it isn’t close, they can’t cheat – and trust me, they are trying like crazy to cheat!

And it was courtesy of the King of Flip Flop himself, John Fumble Kerry!
First he insults the military, all of whom have more heart, intelligence and character than he has ever dreamed of having and then he compounds his stupidity by responding to critics with an arrogant, snotty, looking-down-his-nose piece of incredible horse excrement!
John Stephenson has the video and a complete rundown on the insult-filled quasi-apology of this incredibly useless Senator who has moved no major legislation during 20 years in the Senate and whose nasal whining makes The Swimmer look like a statesman!
Hat tip to The Anchoress for an absolutely wonderful photograph of Le Fraude!
UPDATE #1: From ABC News: “What's unclear is if Kerry's comments will help rally Republican voters or help their party portray Democrats as against the troops to score victories next Tuesday. A Democratic congressman told ABC News Tuesday, "I guess Kerry wasn't content blowing 2004, now he wants to blow 2006, too."”
UPDATE #2: From the delightful Jonah Goldberg: "After all, Kerry is an awful politician, a human toothache with the charisma of a 19th-century Oxford Latin tutor. One can't rule out the possibility that he simply botched a joke. If it was a joke, it was a pretty bad one, even for him. First, Bush got better grades than Kerry at Yale. More relevant, if launching the Iraq war is a sign of stupidity and a failure to do one's homework, Kerry should avoid calling attention to the fact that he voted to approve it and defended that vote throughout his 2004 presidential campaign."
UPDATE #3: "Hillary Clinton Joins Criticism of Kerry as Dems Call for Apology - Wednesday, November 01, 2006
I swear I keep hearing the theme song from the film "Jaws" as I'm typing this!
My only question is, how did Karl Rove orchestrate all this?
