HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

I am the daughter of a most determined woman. That is why I was born at 11:56 p.m. on July 3, 1942. Irene Savko Miller considered having a “firecracker” baby to be just too corny.

My mother was a deeply patriotic woman. She was the child of legal immigrants to this country and she always considered it to be her good fortune to be born here instead of her parents’ native Hungary. It is from her I believe I have inherited my impatience with pretension, arrogance and dishonesty together with love of my country.

Following, as my own personal celebration of my birthday, are the people who chapped my hide during the first half of 2006:

*John Murtha. If his family truly loved him, they would get him expert psychiatric care at once.
*Howard Dean. Every time he opens his yap, he proves how prescient the American people were in rejecting his presidential bid. If Howard Dean didn’t exist, Karl Rove would have to invent him.
*John Francois Kerry. See below.
*Cindy Sheehan. I know your pain and loss are beyond comprehension. That is not an excuse for stupidity, nor is it a mitigation of your anti-American behavior and your comprehensive disregard of the heroic sacrifice made by your son who was – if you’ll recall – a volunteer in the U.S. Army. You are NOT honoring Casey Sheehan by cozying up to Hugo Chavez, Michael Moore and other slime of their ilk.
*The U.S. Senate. Here’s the deal you marble-skulled dimwits. ILLEGAL INVADERS do not deserve ANYTHING from the American people (Remember us – the people you work for?) except ejection from this country. Generally speaking, the American people have no problem with LEGAL immigration to this country. But we take a pretty dim view of people who break our laws by sneaking into our country illegally and then demanding privileges! So no guys – NO FREAKING AMNESTY, okay?
*Hillary Rodham Clinton. I find her chameleon-like ability to morph her persona endlessly somewhat fascinating, if a little creepy. But I cannot help but remember that her essential persona long before she met Bill was that of an avowed Marxist and nowhere, at any time, have I ever seen that philosophy disavowed by her.
*Critics of Ann Coulter’s new book “Godless”. If you are criticizing the book based on the fact that you have read the totality of the book, that is one thing. But nearly all critics that I have encountered have focused their entire critique of the book on her (very valid) criticisms of FOUR 9/11 widows, the so-called “Jersey Girls”. Those comments occupied a mere 2 paragraphs in a rather lengthy and well written, thoughtful and thoroughly researched book. Furthermore, the shrill hysteria from these various critics pretty much prove Ann’s point – that the left cannot have an honest debate. When challenged they will resort to name calling and insults.
*“Pinch” Sulzberger, Bill Keller, et al. There will be a special place reserved for you in excessively hot place if my prayers have any effect whatsoever.
NO, NO - NOT AGAIN!

Apparently the poseur from Massachusetts (the junior Senator, not the bloviating, alcohol-soaked senior Senator) has decided that this country still needs him to run for president.

He has apparently decided that the best way to do this is to delve into the Swift Boat Veterans campaign against him in 2004. The lack of judgment displayed by this one decision is proof sufficient that John F. Kerry should NEVER, EVER be president of these United States.

The Swift Boat Veterans are generally described as "discredited" (at least by the DNC-lapdog MSM) when in fact, that is completely untrue. Nearly all of their charges against John F. Kerry were proven to be completely accurate. Moreover, an interesting detail still lingers. That is, Le Fraude promised to release his entire military records. Hasn't happened to date; don't hold your breath. My guess is that Senator Kerry doesn't dare release those records, most particularly because they will reveal a dishonorable discharge based on his violation of UCMJ by traveling to Paris and meeting with the North Vietnamese delegation (a) while we were still at war with North Vietnam and (b) while HE was still on active reserve. Ergo, he doesn't DARE blow his fantasy image of himself as some sort of "war hero" when in fact, he is the precise opposite.

If only for his defamation of his fellow soldiers fighting in Vietnam, he deserves to never, ever be considered for the presidency. And yes, that IS the voice of bitterness. The man I loved was killed toward the end of his third tour of duty in Vietnam. He had been wounded (and not superficial bandaid wounds) four times during those 3 tours and never did he invoke a privilege to come home (and yes, I wish he had). So John Kerry's measely 4 months of (mostly) manuevering to weasel out of his service via superficial if not largely nonexistent war wounds does not impress me.

I don't know if my tired old bones and digestion could take another election season of "I have a plan" John Kerry. Did you ever notice - he always said he "had a plan" but he never told us what that plan consisted of?

I do know that this country has enough problems without adding his regurgitated candidacy to it.
LEAKING AND THE NEW YORK TIMES
Earlier this week I posted an exact copy of the letter I wrote to the New York Times editor, Bill Keller, wherein I chastised him for the Times' publication of details of a secret government anti-terrorism program that was "following the money" of terrorists.
There have been countless suggestions in the blogsphere about what, if anything, should be done about this continuing seditious activity by many arrogant mainstream media outlets. And I have come to the conclusion - nothing directly.
The problem IS the NYT and LAT and others but they would have nothing to print if there weren't leakers to provide them with material. So, I think it is absolutely vital to go after the leakers. How you ask?
1. Subpoena the editors at the NYT, LAT and WSJ who were responsible for publishing these stories.
2. IMMUNIZE them from prosecution and THEN demand their sources. Since they will not have self-incrimination to fall back on, they'll refuse citing the so-called journalist privilege (which does not exist - look it up) and they will be told to either pony up the information or go to jail for contempt of court.
3. SLAP them into prison for as long as it takes for them to give up the leaker's identity. I believe they can be kept locked up for as much as 18 months. Judith Miller lasted 3 and gave up her source and subsequent reporters who were subpoenaed were more than happy to forego the pleasure of jail and testify fully and completely.
4. Leakers now labor under the belief that the treacherous bastards who publish their leaks will protect their identities. When that belief is taken away, the cowards who leak will be far less likely to run the risk.
I must say, the prospect of Bill Keller and "Pinch" (stupid name for a stupid man) Sulzberger frog-marched out of the NYT in handcuffs is one of my pleasant before-sleep fantasties these days!
Let's roll!

Mr. Bill Keller, Managing Editor
The New York Times
229 West 43rd Street
New York, NY 10036

Dear Mr. Keller:

As a graduate of The Ohio State University School of Journalism, I am writing to tell you how very disappointed and disgusted I have become with the editorial policies of the New York Times, once a great newspaper and now only fit to line a birdcage – if you don’t like your bird!

For you to say that you found arguments by the President and administration officials against publishing top-secret information as “puzzling” and “half-hearted” is about as disingenuous as anything I have heard in recent years. The people of this country are quite intelligent, despite your paper’s belief to the contrary.

I hope that the government prosecutes you (as it should have done years ago) for your arrogant disregard of national security in your headlong rush to destroy the presidency of President George W. Bush.

A few salient comments:
· The people of this country did not elect ANYONE at the New York Times to “preserve, protect and defend” this country. They DID elect George W. Bush – twice! And don’t start that “selected not elected” crap. It doesn’t fly because there exists enormous empirical evidence to prove that both times the election was valid.

· The function of a journalist – and of a newspaper – is to report FACTS in its news pages and opinions on the opinion pages, rather than the reverse. What your reporter “feels” about a certain set of facts is WHOLLY irrelevant; it is his or her job to report the facts without nuance or spin. I learned this at Ohio State – why didn’t any of YOUR staff?

· I absolutely believe in freedom of the press. I do NOT believe in license. Moreover, your RESPONSIBILITIES as journalists are equal in seriousness to your rights. You cannot have one without the other and call yourselves an admirable newspaper. Clearly, nobody at the Times understands that, which is why the Times has become worse than anything ever printed by William Randolph Hearst at his most lurid!

My fondest wish – and my active campaign henceforth – will be to see you – and Pinch Sulzberger (And why is a supposedly adult male going by such a puerile nickname?) – and the entire editorial staff of the New York Times taken out of the Times building in handcuffs, arraigned, held without bail, tried AND convicted of treason and sedition, as well as aid and comfort to enemies of this country in time of war. Further, it is my dearest wish that you all be incarcerated for a sufficient amount of time (preferably not in some white collar country club prison) to persuade others in your profession to start exercising their rights in a responsible manner – something you have utterly failed to do.

Do I believe that you and all your brethren at the New York Times are utterly irredeemable disgraces to your profession and the nation? You bet I do! And I am far from being the only one.

Enjoy your undeserved liberty while you can. My hope and intent is that it will soon come to an end for 5-10 years or longer!

AL GORE

"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." Former Vice President Al Gore

Well, the bloviating pufferfish was selling his load of nonsense on Larry King Live last night. Near as I could glean from his torrent of [mostly nonsensical] words, we're going to hell in a handbasket and it will be all over within the next ten (10) years. Once again he credited his beliefs to "scientists" but didn't name any and did not deign to refer to the myriad of highly regarded scientists who think he's full of - hot air! Professor Bob Carter of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University, in Australia gives what, for many, is a surprising assessment: "Gore's circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention."

But surely Carter is merely part of what most people regard as a tiny cadre of "climate change skeptics" who disagree with the "vast majority of scientists" Gore cites?

No; Carter is one of hundreds of highly qualified non-governmental, non-industry, non-lobby group climate experts who contest the hypothesis that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are causing significant global climate change. "Climate experts" is the operative term here. Why? Because what Gore's "majority of scientists" think is immaterial when only a very small fraction of them actually work in the climate field.

I honestly don't know which was the luckier escape: Tinfoil Hat Wearing Al Gore or that Lying Gasbag John F. Kerry! I DO know that this nation is blessed by God because George W. Bush is President of the United States!

DEMOCRATS STILL DON’T “GET IT”!

Senator John F. Kerry is preparing or has already submitted new legislation designed to withdraw our troops from Iraq “by a date certain”. The Democrats WANT the “great unwashed public” (that would be US folks) to believe that they are just as capable of pursuing the War on Terror as the Republicans. Which of course is why Senator Kerry has decided to undermine the U.S. war effort – in an effort to make the Democrats relevant. According to that great sage, Senator Kerry: “This will legitimize the new Iraqi government, enable the Iraqis to become more self-reliant, and undermine support for the insurgency."

How Senator Kerry has reached that conclusion I’m sure I can’t tell you. But then this great foreign policy thinker and military tactician (He did serve in Vietnam – for a whole 4 months doncha know – or so he says. Of course, since he won’t release his ENTIRE military record for some odd reason, we can’t confirm any of that!) last made a major effort of this kind when he returned from his less-than-stellar (my characterization and I’m sticking to it) service in Vietnam by first lying about the activities of our troops serving over there in testimony before the U.S. Congress (and thereby earning the well-justified disgust and dislike of the soldiers who served honorably in that conflict – the vast majority - and those of us who were widowed as a result of it). Then Mr. Kerry, while still an active reserve officer, journeyed to Paris to meet with the Vietcong representatives at the peace talks, without the knowledge or consent of the U.S. State Department and in violation of United States law.

But I digress (vehement dislike of John Kerry affects me that way). If I were an insurgent and the U.S. announced that on a specific date it was going to withdraw all or part of its troops from Iraq, I’d just hunker down, build up my resources and wait for that day to launch a major offensive to defeat the nascent Iraqi democracy! Now I’m no policy expert, but I suspect that even a three year old would understand that. But not Senator Kerry and not any of his pals in the Democratic Party.

I don’t understand the antipathy of these quisling traitors to everything this country stands for. Do they not understand that THEIR LIVES are just as much at risk as OUR LIVES? Do they not understand that until we are certain – whenever that is – that the Iraq government can defend and perpetuate itself as a democracy, we would be dishonoring the memories of those who have already died to achieve that result? Or are they THAT craven, that pathetic, that disgusting? Do the members of the current Democratic Party and its support system, including the “old” media, have no appreciation or love for the country that has permitted them to live in a way possible in no other country in this world?

Apparently not! And more’s the pity.
THE LEFT MUST BE HORRIBLY DEPRESSED TODAY – GOOD!

Karl Rove will NOT be indicted – not now and not ever. Thus spake that incredibly incompetent special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald who has so far indicted ONE former White House aide (“Scooter” Libby, former aide to Vice President Dick Cheney) – not for “outing” Valerie Plame, the NON-undercover CIA employee, but for supposedly lying about something or other in this investigation of a non-criminal action. (And by the way, how much has this investigation cost us taxpayers so far?)

I am sure that the tinfoil-hat-wearing crowd is in a state of absolute shock, anger and total denial over this. TruthOut.org had a story that Rove had been indicted May 13. They promised to “out” their sources if this proved to be untrue. Don’t hold your breath unless you look really good in blue! I mean, folks, we’re still waiting for John Kerry’s military records.

DNC Chair Howard Dean was on NBC's 'TODAY': 'If Karl Rove had been indicted it would have been for perjury. That does not excuse his real sin which is leaking the name of an intelligence operative during the time of war. He doesn't belong in the White House. If the President valued America more than he valued his connection to Karl Rove, then Karl Rove would have been fired a long time ago. So I think this is probably good news for the White House, but its not very good news for America'... Dr. Howard Dean – judge, jury and executioner. If you have proof of any of that, you asshat, why didn’t you provide it to Fitzgerald? Oh you don’t have proof, you say? Well then, why don’t you shut your lying piehole! I am so OVER these people!

First of all, Valerie Plame was NOT an undercover intelligence operative – she was a desk jockey at the CIA and her husband, that acclaimed and proven liar, Joe Wilson was the one who initially “outed” her – this is a non story from the beginning. But of course, expecting any kind of reality or common sense from Howard Dean (or far too many of the Democratic Party) is like expecting donkeys to fly. And Dr. Dean is, as usual, being completely disingenuous. He doesn’t WANT Karl Rove in the White House (nor does any Democrat) because Karl Rove is their worst nightmare.

And for any member of the anti-American American left – and especially Howard Dean - to accuse President George W. Bush of not valuing America is such despicable demagoguery that it just boggles the mind.

How long, dear Lord, must we continue to be plagued by these vipers in our bosom? How long before they are so thoroughly repudiated by an overwhelming majority of the American people that they just shut up and slink away?

(sigh)
HADITHA

There is good reason to believe that perhaps the mainstream media’s rush to judgment on the Haditha story has left a lot to be desired – as in facts. And while the final investigation report is not yet in, it is entirely possible that – as usual – the mainstream media’s unsupported indictment of our Marines was way overblown. Yes, people were killed at Haditha. But it is not now clear whether this was some overreaction by the Marines or whether the insurgents, as is their habit, were sheltering themselves behind women and children as they attacked the Marines. In any event, the story as it first broke is unraveling as we speak.

It must suck to be the mainstream media these days. I mean, Rush Limbaugh was bad enough, but now every alert and intelligent person with access to a computer can blow the MSM’s lying hatchet jobs right out of the water. The Left no longer owns the rights to information and what they did to the United States military at the time of Vietnam cannot be replicated unchallenged.

I do lay a lot of the blame for this story at the feet of Rep. Murtha. It occurs to me that it would be a “good thing” if the families of all the active military (particularly Marine families) in his district would go door to door campaigning for his opponent and while doing so, expose him for the lying cretin he is!

I will only be posting intermittently because my office computer won't let me visit my blog and my home computer is terminally ill! It should be fixed this coming weekend.

EDWARD MOORE KENNEDY

Senator for 44 years. Have the people of Massachusetts EVER gotten their money’s worth?

His latest bloviating tirade has to do with the Defense of Marriage constitutional amendment:

“A vote for this amendment is a vote for bigotry, pure and simple.” Thus spoke Sen. Ted Kennedy in reference to the Marriage Protection Amendment being debated in the Senate today.

Senator Kennedy’s moral resume hardly qualifies him as a moral arbiter. Starting with his expulsion from Harvard for cheating on exams, to what I consider his utter culpability in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, his own advanced alcoholism which is evident on his bloated face, to his adulterous behavior in his first marriage which cannot have helped his first wife Joan’s emotional and alcohol related problems, to his current unsanctified marriage (the Catholic Church doesn’t DO divorce folks – at least not in his case), I seriously doubt that his late brothers, however morally suspect they might have been when it came to women, would find much to approve in his relentlessly anti-American locutions.

And yet, he has the brass balls to RANT about a constitutional amendment that would reinforce the Catholic Church’s position on marriage. In a just world, he would be publicly chastised and THEN excommunicated on the grounds of causing scandal. In fact, I’m hard pressed to understand why he has not yet been on the receiving end of a trip to the wood shed, courtesy of the Pope – present or former.

Edward Moore Kennedy (D-MA) is the living, breathing (just don’t light a match) embodiment of the need for term limits!

WAR ON TERROR

It is time for our country to start taking the War On Terror seriously in a way that we have not done since the invasion of Afghanistan and the toppling of the Taliban.

The mainstream media (aka useful idiots) has mounted an energetic and spirited campaign (also known as “Bush Derangement Syndrome”) since the election of George W. Bush before 9/11 (yes, kids, he DID win that election – now get over it) and it shows no sign of diminishing any time soon. And this campaign has undermined our President’s ability to wage the war on terror in many ways.

Coupled with that is President Bush’s unaccountable deference to President Vicente Fox of Mexico, a slick con artist if ever I have seen one. For anyone who was paying attention, on the day AFTER the atrocity of 9/11, President Fox was instructing our country not to use the attacks on our country as an excuse to close our borders! At the time I thought, what unbelievable gall the man had. Nothing he has said or done since then has changed my mind.

So long as President Bush and our completely airheaded Congress is willing to let President Fox fob off his indigent population on AMERICAN TAXPAYERS by preventing us from securing our own borders, we will not be a secure nation. It’s bad enough that Canada can and does let most anybody into their country – we at least have some control at our northern border (not much, but at least SOME), while our Southern border is virtually wide open!

No, the Senate Immigration Reform bill is NOT good law and it is not good policy for the security of our nation. The House bill is much closer to what the American people want (understandable since I have always felt that the House is closer to and more responsive to the people who pay their salaries – they have to be since they’re up for re-election every 2 years) and anyone who suggests that the House of Representatives defer to the Senate in this area will earn my undying contempt!
Most of the Democratic members of the Senate and a good portion of the Republican members of the Senate are lucky to have ANY job and they aren’t giving value in the one that they do have. Many, like that bloviating gasbag Senator Kennedy (44 years in office), should have retired long ago. John McCain is so busy positioning and re-positioning himself for a run for the Presidency that he has been on every side of every issue in the past 3-4 years. Senator: When you stand for EVERYTHING, you stand for NOTHING. And then of course, we have her royal self, Queen Hillary of New York, a woman who makes a Mafia enforcer look mellow by comparison! She is shrill, unrelenting, vicious and completely uninterested in the thoughts or opinions of anyone other than her own self. Anyone who longs for an imperial presidency would get just that with this shrieking harridan!

Either we want this Republic to survive or we do not. It is tempting indeed for conservatives to think about deserting the Republican Party because heaven knows, they haven’t shown much loyalty to us. However, by visibly supporting incumbent Republicans in their re-election bids and keeping the majority in both Houses, if for no other reason than to piss off Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid which is a noble goal in and of itself, as well as prevent their planned asinine impeachment proceedings against President Bush a distraction we do NOT need while we are trying to defeat Islamofascists – will give us more currency in affecting the direction of the House and Senate than any other. Ah hell, even Lincoln Chafee is (marginally) better than most of the Democrats in the Congress, although I would urge Connecticut to re-elect Joe Lieberman who is one of the few SANE Democrats serving in the Senate.
Unless and until our entire nation can be seen to be completely committed to defeating the international terrorists, these murderous, hate-filled individuals will be emboldened to continue to plot against our nation without fear of our wrath, much as they did during the 8 years that President Clinton was busy "feeling our pain", biting his lip and selling out our nation for illusory peace.

That’s my opinion at any rate!

“PINCH” SULZBERGER FINALLY ENGAGES IN DEFINITION OF HIS OWN CHARACTER! OR LACK THEREOF!

Let me preface this by saying that a grown human male who goes by the name of “Pinch” has to be a priori a complete idiot!

Middle of the road and right leaning Republicans have long suspected the absolutely irrefutable bias of the formerly praiseworthy New York Times but now, out of your own mouth, you have proclaimed the leftward bias and anti-Bush-administration agenda during an outrageous commencement speech last weekend! Thanks “Pinch”!

Here is a lesson in Journalism 101 you ignorant buffoon: Journalists are supposed to REPORT the news, not MANUFACTURE it! Journalists are supposed to be unbiased observers, not unabashed spinners of fact or manufacturers of fiction which then masquerades as fact in the pages of a formerly great newspaper as has far too frequently been the case under your stewardship. Opinion belongs on the editorial pages, not the news pages. Agendas are NOT the province of a journalist.

You, sir, were not elected by anyone other than the New York Times Board of Directors (and I’ll bet they’ve regretted your ascension to your current, undeserved lofty post ever since). And to believe that you have any ability or right to “bring down the Bush administration” or, indeed, any administration is beyond hubris and a display of arrogance that is nearly psychotic in its depth. You are living proof that the gene pool dilutes to a remarkable degree over generations. You are in no way a worthy inheritor of the mantle of the Sulzbergers who came before you. There are shopping throwaway newspapers in this country more competently run than the former jewel of the journalistic firmament, now known to many as the New York Slimes – the paper that isn’t fit to wrap fish!

Another unmistakable case of “Bush Derangement Syndrome”
REP. MURTHA’S MOUTH

The remarks of Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) regarding the Haditha incident ["Death Toll Rises in Haditha Attack, GOP (?) Leader Says," news story, May 20]. Mr. Murtha said, "Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood." Well, Rep. Murtha – which is it? Overreaction or cold blood? Even you cannot have it both ways, try as you might.

Here’s a suggestion, Rep. Murtha – why don’t you zip your pie hole shut until the INVESTIGATION IS COMPLETE? And if or until proper adjudication has taken place?

Just as a reminder, Rep. Murtha, people in this country are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Blathering by an ignorant and biased public person such as yourself is neither proof nor grounds for conviction.

Your agenda is well known, sir. Add to that the fact that, like your pal John F. Kerry, your military bona fides are not necessarily as they are advertised, and your verbal posturing moves into the area of giving “aid and comfort” to an enemy who is capable of reading our newspapers and misconstruing your remarks as being an accurate representation of sane and intelligent people in our country.

Last night on CNN they were flogging the daylights out of this story, but even CNN had to admit that in their interview with the surviving children of Haditha, the stories were amazingly consistent (as in rehearsed?) and that one of the children opined that she didn’t want to get out of bed and covered her ears because she knew the bomb was coming! So clearly, the investigation needs to run its course before you, or anyone else, rushes to judgment.

In other words, Rep. Murtha – shut the hell up!

DO POLITICIANS (both sides of the aisle) THINK BEFORE THEY OPERATE THEIR MOUTHS?

United States Constitution: Article I § 6 ¶ 1:
The Senators and Representatives shall receive a compensation for their services, to be ascertained by law, and paid out of the treasury of the United States. They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.

So Reps. Hastert and Boehner (I am SO embarrassed that Boehner is from Ohio) are using the above portion of the Constitution of the United States in order to support their position that U.S. Representatives and Senators are ABOVE THE LAW of the land? Talk about cynical misrepresentation!

What this portion of the Constitution CLEARLY says is that members cannot be arrested while in attendance of a session or while traveling to or from said session. They also cannot be prosecuted for their speech while in session. It doesn’t say anything about them being immune from the LAWFUL ORDER of a Federal Judge, nor does it exempt their offices from search, legally authorized, in connection with a CRIMINAL investigation. And to believe that is simply OUTRAGEOUS!

My bet is that both Reps. Hastert and Boehner KNOW this! So why are they trying to sell this load of bull in defense of, of all people, Rep. Jefferson of Louisiana (a Democrat) particularly when the Democrats have been endlessly engaged in an effort to lay the phony “culture of corruption” label on any and all Republicans they can find as part of the never-ending Bush Derangement Syndrome.

I have to admit, I’m quickly reaching the point where I want to say “a pox on both their houses” and “you know what I’m talking about”!

DEALING WITH AN ILLICIT INVASION - SOMEONE’S DUMB IDEA WHY IT SHOULD NOT BE DONE!

According to Richard Cowan’s Reuters article of May 23, 2006, the plan to put National Guard troops on the U.S.-Mexico border (where they will likely do no more than push paper in President Bush’s attempt to quell the ire of Americans regarding this topic – but that’s another posting), is a bad idea because it will “spark a surge in immigration cases and U.S. courts are ill prepared to handle them” according to congressional and court sources.

In the first place, if we accept the specious logic that the U.S. courts are unable to handle prosecution of immigration cases, then by extension, how can we assume that U.S. courts are capable of handling the prosecution of ANY felony or misdemeanor cases? And is that a valid reason for not upholding the laws of our nation, state, county or city? I hardly think so.

Perhaps if our state and Federal judges spent less time attempting to create laws, which is not their province, and spent more time vigorously upholding our laws, things would move more smoothly. And while this is probably insensitive to suggest, perhaps if court personnel were selected on the basis of competence instead of political patronage? Just a thought! It might even speed things along if (particularly in California, Texas and Florida) court personnel were actually fluent in ENGLISH!

We could have a chat with the Senate Democrats on that subject since they have consistently been the hair clog in the drainpipe of the confirmation process. Instead of philosophical litmus tests of “judicial philosophy” we could actually focus on competence and qualifications as LAWYERS not political creatures. Now I am the first one to say that lawyers are not generally a well thought of bunch, but I have known some who were surprisingly intelligent and hard-working. In fact, the managing partner of the law firm where I now work is one such person and I respect her tremendously. And, to my honest astonishment, I enjoy working for her. In addition, the associate whose work I do is brainy, highly competent and delightful. So there are people out there who would suit and it’s high time they were found, nominated, confirmed and put to work.

There are always those who will find reason NOT to do anything worth doing. Does that mean that they should be heard? Absolutely. Should their advice be followed? Heck no. But I was taught at my father’s knee that everyone you met in life could teach you something – if not what TO DO, then what NOT TO DO!

Of course, my father also used to say that anyone smart enough to solve our nation’s problems would be too smart to get into politics. He was right about that too!

HI! Back Again.

I've been dealing with family and personal issues which now seem to be well on their way to resolution. Starting tomorrow, I'll be back blogging again!

FEDERAL JUDICIAL NOMINEES

This nonsense has been going on since the beginning of President George W. Bush’s first term and has only escalated over the years to the point that it now threatens our Republic in a serious manner.

The Democrats were smart enough to throttle back their demented pretense that they are still the majority party during the confirmation process of a new chief justice and a new associate justice of the Supreme Court because entirely too much light was shining upon that process. It wouldn’t do to have anyone notice what obstructionists they have become. But there exists a rather lethal attitude in general due to the Democrats’ petulance and their new, and completely uncivil practice of holding up floor votes as a form of “payback” for the other side of the aisle – or indeed, even if one particular Senator is somehow offended by the nominee.

Denying qualified nominees an “up or down” floor vote once they have cleared the unconscionably lethargic Judiciary Committee process, and the threatening of filibuster, have become de rigueur and threatens to further overburden an already over-capacity Federal court system. The Senate has an OBLIGATION to move things along at a respectably timely clip. Failing to do this is simply asinine.

I lay the blame for the Democrats’ success in these tactics squarely at the door of Senator Dr. Bill Frist and the other spineless Republicans who still seem to labor under the mistaken notion that if they just let the Dems get away with murder, the Dems will like them. They WON’T. However, if Senator Frist and his wimpish cohorts would simply use the power that they possess, bring forth the nuclear option and put these judicial nominees on the bench where they belong, perhaps they would gain a modicum of respect.

The Democratic Party has been having a full blown tantrum since the 2000 election because they didn’t get their way when they tried to steal the election. It’s time to put a firm stop to their antics. They are, as always, putting themselves first and the nation second. It’s time to cut the crap and put the adults back in charge of things!

WEDNESDAY IS "HUMP" DAY!

A few thoughts at mid-week: the ACLU has completely dropped the pretense that it is pro-anything-American. Oh, they still give it lip service - but their action prove them to be stone liars.
Tomorrow is Paul Perry's birthday. For those of you who don't know him, you would profit from doing so. For those of you who do know him, I'm sure you agree.
Friday is my beloved Sam's 5th birthday. I'm not sure how we'll celebrate, and anything I do will doubtless cause him to look at me as though I am nuts (I AM crazy about him), but I still intend to celebrate my beautiful big cat's natal day, if only to celebrate how lucky I am that he is in my life.
Dear friend (and boss) Jack is en route to San Diego and I wish him a good conference and a safe flight back.
I have a ton of filing and organizing to do at work today, so blogging probably won't happen beyond this. Have a productive and enjoyable rest of the day.

MUSINGS ON A TUESDAY MORNING

I was raised in a tradition that believes that forgiveness and patience with your fellow humans is an essential to a successful and meaningful life. Nevertheless, generating that forgiveness and patience is harder with some than others. Nothing in life will ever convince me that Hillary Rodham Clinton is fit to hold ANY public office, never mind the Presidency. I view former president William Jefferson Clinton as an amoral sociopath and have nothing but contempt for his wife, who tolerated, concealed and enabled his behavior. I think Edward Moore Kennedy is a drunken degenerate, a liar, an utter coward and a bloviating gasbag. And I believe that Rev. Jesse Jackson is a liar, a thief and a despicable human being who has done more harm than good to his “people” while cynically lining his own pockets. I don’t trust Senator McCain, and I doubt I ever will. I am embarrassed by BOTH so-called Republican Senators from Ohio: Voinovich and DeWine. They are inept at best, downright destructive at worst. I don’t understand the appeal of Katie Couric, nor CBS’ willingness to throw obscene amounts of money in her direction to persuade this somewhat shopworn “news reader” to come work for them. I don’t like Rosie O’Donnell and hope Star Jones Reynolds mops “The View” floor with her on a regular basis, but not enough to be willing to watch the show. Meredith Viera is even more leftwing than Katie Couric so I will CONTINUE my policy of not watching the Today show, even though I adore Al Roker. I think that if Bill O’Reilly’s head gets any larger, it will explode. I am pretty sure that Al Gore is certifiably insane and should be transported to a safe place of confinement forevermore. I am equally certain that former President James Earl Carter should join him there.

Just wanted to get that off my chest!

ON THIS DAY OF INFAMY WHEN PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T INVITED AND AREN'T WANTED MAKE DEMANDS OF THEIR UNWILLING HOSTS!

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907
