TO THE SURPRISE OF EXACTLY NOBODY!

It is being reported that veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania abruptly switched parties Tuesday, a move intended to boost his re-election chances that also pushed Democrats within one seat of a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.

"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans," Specter said in a statement posted on a Web site devoted to Pennsylvania politics and confirmed by his office. Several Senate officials said a formal announcement was expected at mid-afternoon.
Let's give the man points for his honesty anyway! He was a RINO at the best of times but I cannot say that I approve of him making this move at this time. He was elected to be a REPUBLICAN representative of Pennsylvania in the Senate - he damned well ought to act like it! I think it would be karmic justice if this old fart LOST despite his switch in political parties!

I remember when Phil Graham from TX decided that the Dems had left him in the dust. He first resigned his Senate seat and then ran in a special election as a Republican. He said he'd been elected as a democrat, and it was up to the people of his State to decide if they wanted to send him back with the "R" after his name. They did!
